After a rather unfortunate experience with Global Agenda (horrid fames per second, their problem not mine.. something to do with the UT3 engine on certain hardware), which was gonna be my primary game for the next unspecified months, I sought another game to fill the void.
I’d watched through the Star Trek films recently in their entirety, yep, even the crap ones, so Star Trek Online didn’t have to convince me much.. buy now play the beta? sold. (note, the beta ended Tuesday.. headstart for preorders begin Friday)
So, STO, any good?

During the last few months of the SNES’ run, something had caught my interest, and I was chasing it as rapidly as a whippet does a fake rabbit.

The SNES days was easily my favourite console era, hands down. From the moment I got one, it shelved my Amiga for the rest of the time I had it (i’ll mention how I ‘parted ways’ with it later).
My Dad was originally against me getting a SNES. I think he figured it’d do exactly what it did, and make the Amiga collect dust. I mentioned before that he was an advocate of me using computers, for the ability to not just play games, but to utilize everything else (paint programs, music, typing etc), so pure gaming consoles never sat as well as a computer did with him.
It’s update time, so what’s with the video delay?
In all honesty, it’s primarily been 2 things. The first has been my internet, which has been prone to random and frequent disconnects during the past couple of months. It seems sorted now, but unfortunately i’m back on regular ADSL with it’s god awful upload speed.. least it’s stable though.
The second? Borderlands was seriously unenjoyable for me to edit and upload. Editing was a real bastard in places for some reason, then I rendered like 4 hours of it, only to find the sound was fucked and had to rerender again. THEN the set was prone to random desync when YT reencoded the parts (i’ve since found YT doesn’t like the way I was autosplitting videos). Combine that with wobbly uploading, and the whole thing being an exercise in sheer frustration, and it just made me just say fuck it for the time being (until I felt like editing/uploading again).
Some recent comments on my YT channel about people’s gaming history, made me reflect on my own.
I started gaming when I was 4, back in 1987. I literally remember sitting on one of those rides you stuck 10p in to and they moved around erratically (some were space ships!) and in the distance noticing for the first time these huge, loud, and flashing contraptions. My curiosity peaked, I inquired to my Dad as to what they were, and no sooner had he told me they were arcade machines, I was already half way towards one.
That was the beginning of the end for all potential hobbies and activities I may have had in the future.

I started writing a screenplay, of what was originally gonna be a book, then an adventure game, and will now probably end up as a screenplay (at least till I run out of effort to finish it).
It’s a sci-fi horror, set on a small planet sized (about the size of the moon) ship that’s going through a severe catastrophe (which i’d let the screenplay explain, though not in act one).

God I wish I'd killed the Council on my Paragon playthrough during ME1 too. They are just as annoying as I remember.
